OUT RON HIS OWN

CRISTIANO RONALDO has made history again – becoming the first player to ever win the Golden Boot in England, Spain and Italy.

The Portuguese’s Juve side endured a difficult campaign, only coming fourth in Serie A after previously winning nine Scudettos in a row.

Ronaldo, however, remained prolific – scoring 29 goals in 33 Serie A outings.

Despite being rested for the crucial 4-0 final day victory over Bologna, CR7 still finished comfortably above nearest challengers Romelu Lukaku and Luis Muriel.

The Belgian and Colombian scored 24 and 22 respectively.

This season marks the fifth time that Ronaldo, 36, has won his league’s Golden Boot trophy.

He first got his hands on one in England, when he scored 31 Premier League goals during the 2007-08 season, also winning the title, Champions League and Ballon d’Or that year.

His move to Real Madrid started the annual competition with Lionel Messi for Spain’s Golden Boot.

The two took prolific goalscoring to new levels, with Ronaldo managing to win Spain’s ‘Pichichi’ trophy in 2011, 2014 and 2015.

It took 40 goals to win that first one in 2011, and tallies in the next seasons of 46 and 34 weren’t even enough to beat Messi.

In 2014 he reclaimed his crown with 31, then retained the Pichichi the next year with an eyewatering 48.

After being beaten by Luis Suarez and Messi again, Ronaldo moved to Italy in 2018.

But he failed to win the Golden Boot in either of his first two seasons, being beaten by Fabio Quagliarella in 2019 and Ciro Immobile last time around.

In total, Ronaldo scored 84 goals in 196 Premier League appearances, a scarcely believable 311 in 292 LaLiga outings – and a highly commendable 81 in 97 during his current stint in Serie A.

He has also won the European Golden Shoe on four occasions, also in 2008, 2011, 2014 and 2015.

Ronaldo and his Juventus team-mates did manage to get their hands on some silverware this season, beating Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final.

But their disappointing league showing, coupled with their early Champions League exit to Porto, meant that the season was a failure for the Old Lady, despite the old lad’s individual success.
