Cristiano Ronaldo is preparing to participate in his 11th major tournament with Portugal, since his first appearance at Euro 2024.

Despite having a successful season in the Saudi Pro League with 50 goals in 51 appearances for Al-Nassr, the 39-year-old is facing stiff competition from young talents such as Diogo Jota , Goncalo Ramos and Joao Felix to win a starting spot in Portugal’s attack.

Karel Poborsky, a former Czech Republic football player, believes that if Ronaldo will definitely play in Portugal’s opening match at Euro 2024. He shared with the Czech News Agency: “I have said for a long time that Ronaldo will be one of Portugal’s weakest links.”

“Fans of both teams are crazy about Ronaldoo but he is 39 years old. At this age, he is not as good at building play and pressuring as his younger teammates. So our team wants he plays more.

We don’t know what his situation is with coach Roberto Martinez, but previously there was information that his predecessor Fernando Santos and CR7 had problems at the World Cup in Qatar,”  Karel Poborsky added.

Although he believes that Ronaldo will hinder Portugal, Poborsky still considers Roberto Martinez’s team as one of the candidates to win Euro 2024 .

“I hope Portugal will be proactive in attacking from the start. This tactic, coupled with a willingness to move without the ball and the ability to quickly transition to attack, can threaten any opponent strong, even when they play deep defense.”
