Earlier this month it was reported that Cristiano Ronaldo had welcomed twins after using a surrogate for a second time, and now the football star has confirmed that he is now a father-of-three – with the newborns being a boy and a girl as initially reported.
Cristiano announced the news to his fans in a Facebook post, where he explained that he is stepping away from the Confederations Cup earlier than he’d hoped following the arrival of his babies.
Cristiano is already dad to seven-year-old Cristiano Jr. After Portugal lost to Chile in the tournament’s semi-finals, the 32-year-old footballer admitted that he was yet to spend time with the newborns due to his work commitments, sharing: “I was in the service of the national team, as always, body and soul, even though my two sons were born.
“Unfortunately, we have not been able to achieve the main sporting objective that we wanted, but I am sure we will continue to give joy to the Portuguese.
“The President of the Portuguese Football Federation and the national picker have today had an attitude that has touched me and I will not forget.
“I’m very happy to finally be with my children for the first time.”
Cristiano admitted work commitments meant that he hasn’t spent time with his newborn sons. The Portugese Football Federation also released a statement about Cristiano’s early departure, sharing: “The President of the FPF and the National Team were informed before the Confederations Cup by the National Team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, that he had been a father.
“The athlete, despite the birth of his children, made a point of being in the service of the National Team, in a gesture that we must underline and praise.
The footballer is a devoted dad. “The President of the FPF and the National Selector understand that if it is impossible to reach the goal of winning the Confederations Cup, they must release the athlete so that he can finally get to know his children.”
Cristiano is also dad to seven-year-old Cristiano Jr., with it being thought that this was also via surrogacy as the identity of his mother has never been revealed.
