The two were scheduled to headline UFC 303 in late June, but have been repeatedly rescheduled for various reasons.
UFC President Dana White just revealed important information to Spinnin Backfist. White said the anticipated match between Conor McGregor (June 22) and Michael Chandler (August 23) will not take place.
The two are expected to headline UFC 303 in late June. The fight was planned after the two coached each other on The Ultimate Fighter 2023. The fight was originally scheduled for 2023 but was repeatedly postponed.
When the date was finally set, McGregor pulled out of the fight due to a broken toe. Chandler was adamant that the fight would happen, with a December date set. However, Dana White never confirmed that date and now we know that the fight will not happen.
White said Michael Chandler is tired of waiting for McGregor and wants to fight. According to White, McGregor could return in early 2025. White also added that more information about the fights will be announced tomorrow. So what could the UFC be planning?
One notable possibility is a BMF (Baddest Motherf**ker) title fight between Max Holloway and one of these two fighters. The fight seems like a natural fit for McGregor. Holloway faces Ilia Topuria for the featherweight title next month, but the BMF title fight with McGregor could still happen regardless.
As for Michael Chandler, the UFC could pair him with Justin Gaethje or even Charles Oliveira. Another option could be former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, who has expressed interest in moving up to 155 for his next fight. All of those fighters could also be McGregor’s opponents. Either way, it’s a very interesting development.
