Chelsea have just struck at the heart of Liverpool owners FSG with their latest arrival. That’s despite the ridiculous turmoil at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea appear to have got one over on Liverpool – or at least, their owners FSG. The Blues’ own ownership, Clearlake Capital, have hired David Beeston as a managing director, per City AM.
Now, you’re likely wondering what on earth that has to do with Liverpool. Well, Beeston was working as a co-head of FSG’s marketing firm.

His work was primarily in the US with FSG’s sport teams over there. In fact, his role at Liverpool was very limited to non-existent, it seems.
But he’s clearly someone who was valued highly – and someone who has instead taken a ‘promotion’ with Clearlake, rather than with FSG. Beeston will be making a move into football here, just not with Liverpool – he’ll be heavily involved with Chelsea.
Perhaps it’s clutching at straws, but it seems fair to believe that Beeston would have climbed the ranks further with FSG. He’d been there for 10 years and is quite clearly valued in a way that coincides with elite-level football.
It’s Chelsea, though, who will benefit from Beeston.
Chelsea’s chaos
This is something of a surprise, given Chelsea’s troubles at the moment. Clearlake own the majority of the Blues (around 61%) with Todd Boehly owning around 12%.
The relationship between the two parties has broken down beyond repair, however. Both are now ‘considering their options’, per the Mirror.
There’s a genuine chance that a sale is on the horizon – and that makes a significant hire a surprising move. Beeston will be working closely with Chelsea but for how long? Are Clearlake actually in it for the long haul?
There are a lot of questions to answer at Stamford Bridge, and now there’s at least one to answer at FSG.
