After the Golden State Warriors secured a pair of much-needed wins, the visiting Boston Celtics put an end to any chance of a winning streak for the Warriors on Monday afternoon in a rematch of the 2021 NBA Finals.
It didn’t take long for the Celtics to build a commanding lead on the way to a lopsided blowout in San Francisco, 125-85. After jumping out to an 11-point lead in the first quarter, the Celtics increased their advantage to 15 by halftime.
While the Warriors struggled offensively, the Celtics really took advantage in the third quarter. The Celtics outscored the Warriors by 19 points in the third quarter with eight made 3-pointers in the third frame alone. By the start of the fourth quarter, the Celtics held a 34-point lead.
Steph Curry led the Warriors’ ice-cold offense with 18 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field in 27 minutes. Outside of Curry, Moses Moody was the only other member of the Warriors to score in double-figures with 13 points.
After scoring 31 points against the Wizards, Andrew Wiggins struggled against the Celtics, scoring a season-low four points on 1-of-11 shooting from the field on Monday.
The Warriors finished the game shooting 34.4% from the field and 26.4% from beyond the arc (14-of-53). Wiggins, Buddy Hield and Dennis Schroder combined to go 2-for-12 from deep against the Celtics.
After an ugly loss to the defending champions, the Warriors will travel to Sacramento for a contest against De’Aaron Fox and the Kings on Wednesday for the first leg a back-to-back.
