Boycotting Messi, Hong Kong officials plan to invite Ronaldo

After the incident involving Lionel Messi, the Hong Kong government (China) plans to turn to Cristiano Ronaldo when organizing future friendly matches.

“The expensive fee is not a problem,” Hong Kong Football Association President Pui-Kwan Kay shared with the South China Morning Post . “I don’t know whether Al Nassr will return to China or not, but bringing Ronaldo to Hong Kong to play is a good idea. He is one of the most beloved players today.”

“We also need to think about inviting other famous teams. Kai Tak Stadium is about to be inaugurated so we need a big event. The association will coordinate with the parties but this is still a bit early. Currently, we are only at the review and discussion stage,” Mr. Pui-Kwan Kay added.

Faced with the possibility of Messi returning to Hong Kong, Mr. Pui-Kwan Kay affirmed: “Personally, asking about Messi at this time is not appropriate. There will be no priority for him and Inter Miami anymore. “.

Leo was accused of disrespecting Chinese fans after not appearing in the friendly match Inter Miami won 4-1 against the Hong Kong Stars on February 4. Messi apologized to the Hong Kong audience because his injury prevented him from doing anything else. However, the former Barca star was still healthy enough to play against Vissel Kobe just 3 days later.

On February 10, the Beijing Football Association (BFA) announced that they do not intend to organize any sporting events related to Messi in the near future. This is a move that confirms the stance of Chinese authorities on the recent scandal related to Leo.

Hangzhou Football Association also canceled Argentina’s tour in this locality. According to the original schedule, Argentina participated in two friendly matches on FIFA Days at the end of March, against Nigeria and Ivory Coast. Finally, the defending World Cup champion went to the United States to face Costa Rica and El Salvador.
