Allen twice was a defensive coordinator previously — in 2011 with the Broncos and the Saints from 2015 to 2021. The Saints ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in points and yards allowed in his final two seasons as DC and in his first as head coach in 2022.
Allen and Doyle, 28, served together on Sean Payton’s Saints staff. Doyle followed Payton to Denver in 2023.
The Bears offense is still expected to largely be Johnson’s design, with the new head coach having said he’ll continue to call plays, but Doyle is considered an up-and-coming coaching star in the business.
