Avril Lavigne has some thoughts about a certain conspiracy theory about her.

During the Wednesday, May 15 episode of Call Her Daddy, the “Complicated” singer, 39, addressed the “dumb” rumor that she was replaced by a body double named “Melissa.”

After Alex Cooper asked Lavigne what the craziest rumor is that she’s heard about herself, Lavigne replied that she knew exactly the one the host, 29, was referencing.

“I know what you’re talking about,” she said — referring to the rumor that surfaced on internet forums in the early 2000s claiming the Canadian pop-punk star had died in 2003 after her debut album Let Go was released and was subsequently replace with a doppelgänger named Melissa. “I mean, it’s just funny to me. Like, on one end, everyone’s like, ‘You look the exact same. You haven’t aged a day.’ But then other people are like, there’s a conspiracy theory that I’m not me.”

“Honestly, it’s not that bad. It could be worse, right?” she admitted with a laugh. “I feel like I got a good one. I don’t feel like it’s negative. It’s nothing creepy.”

Lavigne added: “Obviously I am me, it’s so dumb.”

However, the “I’m with You” performer was quick to point out that body double rumors aren’t uncommon when it comes to musicians.

“I think that they’ve done that with other artists,” Lavigne said. “I’m not the only one. I think, like, other people have that.”

Cooper then noted that the conspiracy theory about the rocker is more “prominent” than similar conspiracy theories about other artists.

“I’m telling you what’s crazy is you haven’t aged,” she tells Lavigne. “I’m staring at you. And, like, I’m picturing you with your auburn hair. And I’m like, oh my God. You literally look the same from when you were younger. “

Last Friday, the “Girlfriend” artist announced that she’d be releasing her Greatest Hits album this summer.

The 20-track project will spotlight all phases of Lavigne’s musical journey, including her 2002 debut, Let Go, and other releases leading up to 2022’s Love Sux, her seventh studio album.

In addition to Greatest Hits, she will drop expanded editions of 2004’s Under My Skin, 2007’s Best Damn Thing, 2011’s Goodbye Lullaby, and 2013’s Avril Lavigne, which will be released on 12″ vinyl for the first time and will include bonus tracks that were previously digital-only songs.

She also teased, “Of course all of my friends are joining me,” including All Time Low, Simple Plan, Girlfriends and Royal & the Serpent, who will serve as opening acts throughout her tour run.

The tour will kick off May 22 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and will make stops in cities including Las Vegas, Phoenix, Toronto, Nashville, Chicago and more, before wrapping on Sept. 16 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
