Arsenal have shown interest in Joan Garcia all summer, and the expectation was that a move would be made once they orchestrated the departure of Aaron Ramsdale. That happened on Wednesday, and less than 24 hours later, they did submit an opening offer to Espanyol.
However, it was only worth €20m. As a result, it was rejected by Espanyol, who are clear that the only way for the 23-year-old to leave at this late stage of the summer is if his release clause, valued at €30m, is triggered.
The Athletic have now reported that negotiations have stalled between Espanyol and Arsenal, and the latter appear set to walk away. They have already made a move for former Barcelona goalkeeper Neto, who currently plays for AFC Bournemouth.
All signs point towards Garcia, who was outstanding during the goalless draw at Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, staying at Espanyol for at least one more season, which will be a delight for Los Pericos.
