Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation of Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman after he reached a verbal agreement to join Paris Saint-Germain, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Nigeria international forward wants to join PSG, and the Ligue 1 club are trying to get a deal across the line as soon as possible.
However, negotiations with Atalanta over a permanent deal for the Arsenal target are currently stalling, and the Gunners are prepared to pounce should the deal fall through.
The North London club are reportedly willing to offer €50 million and Poland international defender Jakub Kiwior in exchange for Lookman, but it appears the former Everton forward prefers to move to the Parc des Princes club.
The versatility of the 26-year-old appears to have impressed Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, and his attack could do with such a quality player in their bid to pip Manchester City to the Premier League title this term.
Lookman plays on the wing and as a number 9, proving his quality in front of goal in the Europa League final last season with a hat-trick in the 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
The Nigerian failed to impress while at Everton and Leicester City, and a chance to show what he can do in the Premier League should appeal to him amid the interest from Arsenal.
However, it seems the terms on offer by the mega-rich PSG are too much for him to turn down, and they are also giving him the chance to replace Kylian Mbappe and help them challenge for the Champions League having already dominated the domestic scene.
The Gunners could struggle to match the financial package the French club are offering both Lookman and Atalanta, but his move to France has not been finalised and nothing is guaranteed.
As a result, Arsenal will continue to keep tabs on things and make their move should PSG fail in their pursuit of the forward.
