According to Sports Zone, Arsenal have reached an agreement with Real Sociedad for the signing of Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino (28). The former Newcastle United midfielder has been identified as Mikel Arteta’s primary target to bolster his midfield options this summer.
The Gunners are aiming to recruit the Sociedad midfielder as their second signing of the summer following the arrival of Ricardo Calafiori from Bologna. With the Premier League club and La Liga club now reaching an agreement, a move could be completed rather swiftly. Merino has already agreed personal terms with the North London club, Sports Zone understands.
As the transfer nears close, the Spanish international could soon travel to London to complete his medical before being unveiled as a new Arsenal player. Merino was a part of the Spain side who were crowned EURO 2024 champions this summer. The 28-year-old made 7 appearances during the competition and scored the winning goal in the quarter-finals against Germany.
