Ariana Grande is already having one hell of a record-breaking year, and it’s only February.
Grande just became the first artist since The Beatles to simultaneously occupy places one, two, and three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
And now, Grande has become the most followed woman on Instagram, dethroning the formerly most followed woman, Selena Gomez. At the time of writing, Grande had 146,355,023 followers, while Gomez had 146,295,281.
Footballer Christiano Ronaldo, the most followed user on the platform, had 155,932,066 followers at the time of writing.
Grande’s overtaking of the former queen of Instagram may have something to do with Gomez taking a break from social media in September 2018, and not returning until January 14 this year.
“As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given,” Gomez wrote on Instagram, announcing her four month social media hiatus.
Congrats, Ari.
