Agent reveals the REAL reason Liverpool didn’t sign Adrien Rabiot

Liverpool have been linked with Adrien Rabiot for a number of years and the club were reportedly interested again this summer.

Rabiot was available on a free transfer after his contract at Juventus expired and the Reds were reportedly interested in bringing the Frenchman to Anfield but he eventually ended up back in France with Olympic Marseille.

Liverpool only made one addition to their squad this summer, Federico Chiesa, however a deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili was agreed for the summer of 2025.

Now, one of the potential reasons behind the Frenchman’s failed Anfield move has been revealed.

Rabiot’s agent situation

Unlike many professional footballers, Rabiot is represented by his mother, Veronique, and not by a professional agency.

Now, in an interview with RMC Sport, French football agent Bruno Satin has shed some light on Rabiot’s situation this summer.

“If [Rabiot] had been managed by a professional, he would have certainly joined a top 10 European club, especially since he was a free agent. So, it’s interesting to consider how things could have turned out differently.”

Although Liverpool were not specifically mentioned by the agent, their interest in Rabiot was widely reported and this could be the reason that the 48-cap Frenchman didn’t make a move to Merseyside.

Did Liverpool need Rabiot?

The Reds’ desire for midfield reinforcements this summer was no secret, they made Martin Zubimendi their number one target but a deal couldn’t be agreed and Zubimendi decided he wanted to remain at Real Sociedad.

Liverpool didn’t sign a midfielder in the end and now Ryan Gravenberch has emerged as the number one option for Arne Slot in the holding midfield role.

Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been the clear and obvious first choice midfield for Slot but Liverpool’s midfield depth beyond those three is questionable.

Wataru Endo has barely played this season and both Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones have struggled with injuries. Tyler Morton remains at the club but there doesn’t seem to be a rotation option in the first team that Slot is properly happy with.

Rabiot could have been a depth option for the Reds but Slot and Richard Hughes obviously decided not to move for the Frenchman, whether it be because of his representation as Satin suggests, or for another reason.
