Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy had heartbreaking news to share this Thursday. One of his employees has passed away at the young age of 28.
Portnoy, 47, has employed a handful of marquee names over the years. With that said, he announced on social media that one of Barstool’s unsung heroes, Iga Obrycka, has died. She was the general manager of Barstool Nashville.
“More sad news in Barstool Family. We suddenly lost Iga Obrycka this week,” Portnoy wrote on X. “Iga basically ran our Bar group for us. If you ever went to Barstool Nashville you probably saw her there. I would have hired her for any position she wanted at our company because she was that smart and driven. Just incredibly sad news and another cruel reminder not to take a minute for granted. RIP Iga.”
Here’s a bit more about Obrycka, via her obituary:
Iga Obrycka was a dynamic and influential professional based in Nashville, Tennessee. Her career trajectory demonstrated a keen understanding of marketing, management, and entertainment. Obrycka was best known for her role as the General Manager of Barstool Nashville, an outpost of the widely recognized media and sports company, Barstool Sports.
Her professional journey included a significant focus on branding, event management, and public relations. Obrycka’s passion for her work and her connection to the Nashville community made her a well-respected figure. Through her leadership at Barstool Nashville, she was instrumental in creating a space for fans of Barstool Sports in Music City, helping the brand solidify its presence in a city known for its vibrant nightlife and entertainment scene.”
Over the past 24 hours, countless people have posted kind comments on Iga’s Instagram page.
“Best partner in crime to explore a new city with and do it all while ‘working.’ Opening Scottsdale with you was a dream, the amount of laughs were unmatched and the late nights in a new city for both of us will never be forgotten,” one person wrote on her Instagram page. “Life’s not fair.”
“So heartbreaking, rest peacefully beautiful. Praying for your family and closest loved ones,” another person commented.
“Grateful for our memories together over the years,” a third person said. “Shine high iga, I hope you find your peace.”
The cause of death is unknown at this time.
Like Portnoy said in his initial social media post, this heartbreaking news should serve as a reminder that life is painfully short.
Our thoughts are with Iga’s loved ones during this difficult time.
