Even if you haven’t read Fourth Wing, the buzzy, viral romantasy novel by Rebecca Yarros, chances are you’ve heard of it. The first entry in the author’s Empyrean series, it took the literary world by storm when it was published in 2023, enchanting readers with dragon riders, steamy scenes, and high-stakes drama. Following the sequel, Iron Flame, readers have been eagerly awaiting the series’ third book, Onyx Storm, which is now on shelves.

Although Yarros is perhaps best known for her trio of romantasy novels, she has an impressive catalog beyond the series that gained her mainstream recognition—and notoriety. Many of her other titles are also romances, often exploring similar themes of grief, love, and family.

Yarros is on the verge of dominating screens as well. In the Likely Event, her 2023 romance book, will be adapted into a series on Netflix. And with the Empyrean series continuing to surge in popularity, Fourth Wing is also set to become a TV show on Prime Video, though details on the adaptation remain minimal at the moment. If her success on the screen is anything like her success on the page, we will be seeing a lot more of Yarros in the future.

Whether you want to dip your toes into another one of Yarros’s series (perhaps The Renegades or Flight & Glory) or try one of her standalone novels and novellas, you can find them all, in order of publication year, below.

Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros (2025)

Series it belongs in: Empyrean #3

While it’s too early to get a clear picture of the book from Goodreads reviews, Yarros shared with ELLE what to expect from Onyx Storm: “Fans can expect to see Violet with one singular motivation, which is to save Xaden. You’re going to follow the implications of what’s been revealed in Iron Flame, and you’re going to see Andarna very curious about where she comes from. I think that’s the biggest thing I can tease before a publisher jumps out and tackles me to the floor.”
