KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Politicians and government departments throughout Tennessee have been posting messages and quotes for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights icon who fought against racism and segregation. He is famous for promoting non-violent protests. Here are some posts by Tennessee officials celebrating him:

Today, we honor the life & legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, who championed human dignity & equality for all people.

On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I am grateful for the example Dr. King set as an activist. He showed courage, resilience and faith in the face of adversity and united people with different agendas and backgrounds to fight for a common goal.

Meanwhile, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs posted a video saying, “Today we honor the legacy of a man whose vision of fairness and justice continues to influence all of us. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s message of compassion, unity and determination remind us that everyone plays a role in creating a brighter future. As we remember Dr. King, let’s also remember to treat one another with respect and kindness. Together, we’ll pass on his impact and his legacy to the next generation.”

Various organizations posted as well. For instance, the Knoxville County Schools posted, “Let’s honor Dr. King’s legacy of service, justice, and equality by engaging in community service or reflecting on ways to make an impact in our schools and communities.”
