Joe Hendry is the new TNA world champion. Wave your hands from side to side, and say, “I believe in Joe Hendry.”
Hendry faced reigning champion Nic Nemeth in the main event of Genesis (Jan. 19, 2025). There was a cloud of personalities over the match threatening to cheapen the affair. Ryan Nemeth was banned from ringside, so he bought a front row ticket instead. Frankie Kazarian loomed with the Call Your Shot trophy to cash in for an instant title shot at any time. And then there was JBL. Nobody really knows JBL’s motives, but he has been a consistent presence in Nemeth’s matches causing a ruckus on the outside.
When push came to shove, JBL did the right thing on this night. Kazarian ran down to cash in when Nemeth and Hendry were both in peril. JBL entered through the crowd to deliver a Clothesline from Hell on Kaz. JBL also punched Ryan for fun. Just like that, JBL exited.
The finish was clean fair and square. Hendry shed off Nemeth’s Danger Zone finisher to counter for the Standing Ovation slam. Nemeth kicked out on the cover. Commentary said that was the first time anybody has kicked out of the Standing Ovation.
The crowd cheered on Hendry to follow up with another Standing Ovation. Nemeth escaped and connected on a superkick and Danger Zone. Hendry kicked out.
The crowd voiced support for Hendry by chanting, “We believe!” Hendry caught a superkick to counter for a fallaway slam. Hendry fired up with adrenaline for a Standing Ovation. 1, 2, 3. New champion. The fans went crazy.
Hendry’s world title win was an electric moment.
