Cowboys Source Reveals Jerry ‘Mystery Candidate’

FRISCO – There is buzz inside The Star about a Jerry Jones “mystery” candidate for the vacant head coaching job with the Dallas Cowboys.

CowboysCountry.com believes we have unraveled the “mystery.”

In addition to names ranging from Kellen Moore to Deion Sanders to Robert Saleh to Jason Witten and a handful of other candidates with more experience as NFL head coaches, a source tells us that Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingbury is on Jones’ wish list.

Maybe really high on Jones’ wish list.

Washington has its matchup with the vaunted No. 1 seeded Detroit Lions on Saturday evening, after which time – if the Commanders lose – Kingsbury will have some time on his hands.

Kingsbury’s present position? He has decided to wait until the end of the season to talk to any teams about their openings.

This is a bold move in the sense that the former Arizona Cardinals head coach had opportunities to interview with both the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints at some point this week. … and declined those.

Maybe asking them for some patience is about his confidence … in being able to talk with them eventually … or being able to talk with Dallas eventually.

Kingsbury is to some degree a known quantity to the Joneses – traditionally a critical piece of a Jerry search. He’s a “young” 46, with experience. He mentored QB Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech as he’s now doing with Washington rookie QB Jayden Daniels.

If Dallas wants to get the most out of Dak Prescott, a head coach who knows how to mentor quarterback seems a fit.

Are there other possible “mysteries” in store? Jerry Jones certainly likes playing that game. But now we know he likes Kliff Kingsbury, too.
