The Washington Commanders are heading into the NFL Divisional Round looking to break their 33-year NFC Championship drought. The Commanders opened as 10-point underdogs against the 15-2 Detroit Lions, the NFC’s best team in the regular season.
One DMV native, Pheonix superstar and future basketball Hall-of-Famer Kevin Durant, has the Commanders succeeding in a historic upset.

Durant told reporters he predicts a 24-21 upset over the Lions, and has great confidence in his favorite team.
“That’s a good thing to say: we got an identity. I feel like we got an identity as a football team. We didn’t have that for a long time.”
Durant was born in Washington D.C., and attended three different high schools, two in Maryland and one in Virginia. He is the NBA‘s third-leading scorer this season, and is ninth all-time in points.
Durant had previously expressed interest in joining the Commanders’ ownership group in 2022, and has made appearances at the team’s training camp.
Durant also picked the Commanders to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. Durant, in partnership with FanDuel, has been posting his playoff picks on social media.
For the divisional round’s picks, posted with a caption of “Let’s get this W @Commanders”, Durant also has Kansas City beating Houston, Philadelphia over Los Angeles, and Baltimore over Buffalo.
Durant has taken his confidence in the Commanders into the locker room as well. His All-NBA teammate and Michigan native Devin Booker is a massive Lions fan. Asked in a press conference if Durant will bet with Booker, KD stated the obvious.
“Fo Sho.”
“I’m going to hit him on the side. You don’t even gotta worry about that”.
Durant and Booker will be in Detroit for the contest, as the Suns are taking on the Detroit Pistons at 4 p.m. If all goes well, the pair might even be able to make it to the Divisional Round in person.
