The Mets already stole the offseason show — and a gigantic piece from the Yankees — by landing premier free agent Juan Soto earlier this winter.
It looks all but certain now that there will be no re-Pete headlines, however, with Pete Alonso.
The Mets’ front office began implementing Plan B to move on from their homegrown slugger in recent days, as The Post’s Joel Sherman first outlined online on Thursday, and barring a severe discount offered by Alonso and agent Scott Boras, the Mets are operating as if the six-year veteran first baseman will play elsewhere in 2025.

I honestly thought the sides eventually would come together later in the winter — and with Steve Cohen, you shouldn’t truly rule anything out — but the stance here by Mets president David Stearns makes sense with other needs (the bullpen especially) still to fill.
