The Real Reason the ‘One Chicago’ Shows Aren’t Airing Tonight

NBC had originally planned to air new episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. tonight and then do rebroadcasts on Jan. 22. However, now all three One Chicago shows are taking an unexpected break due to President Joe Biden’s farewell address to the nation tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

When Biden’s speech wraps, NBC will cut back to a rerun of Chicago Med, the third episode of the show’s current season, “Trust Fall.” That will be followed by a rerun of Chicago Fire’s “All Kinds of Crazy” and Chicago P.D.’s “Off Switch.”

An an army of surgeons prepares to separate conjoined twins. Hannah (Jessy Schram) reconnects with someone from her past. Archer (Steven Weber) treats a tyrannical boss with a heart problem.

Weber tells Parade of Archer’s decision to stay at Chicago Gaffney, “Sharon reminds Dean that we have purpose here, and we’re not just robots, we’re not just pawns, and you’re not just your past. It’s done in such a way that she and he have this moment of connection that is indeed kind of intimate, and it’s that intimacy that he’s been putting off for decades.

“He’s staying on, but in a subordinate position technically speaking, but this Archer is beginning to understand why people are the way they are. So, I think he’s going to be less defensive, less reactive, less resentful, and instead do his job but also observe himself in the presence of these historical triggers for him.”

An unexpected visitor causes disruption for Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Burgess (Marina Squerciati) amidst an emotional investigation involving an unidentified young girl.

“We’ll get a little more info about the wedding in that episode,” showrunner Gwen Sigan tells Parade. “It’s a family member for Ruzek. I think I’ve already said it, so it’s Jack Coleman who we love, who plays Disco Bob. It’s actually a two-episode story, so it’s a two-parter about Ruzek and his father, and just talking about family and how those relationships change over time and aging. It also is paired with this really dark twisted case that gets under Ruzek’s skin, and he can’t let go.”

The scheduling change will not impact the planned One Chicago crossover event, which will still air on Jan. 29. But, for the crossover, Chicago Fire and Chicago Med will switch timeslots. The full schedule reads as follows:

–8 p.m. ET: Chicago Fire season 13, episode 11, “In the Trenches: Part 1” (NEW)

–9 p.m. ET: Chicago Med season 10, episode 11, “In the Trenches: Part 2” (NEW)

–10 p.m. ET: Chicago PD season 12, episode 11, “In the Trenches: Part 3” (NEW)
