Baby Lucky: Rescued from Hurricane Helene Floodwaters, Honored in a Heartfelt Photoshoot

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, a story of survival and hope emerged from the floodwaters of Biltmore Village in Asheville, North Carolina. A ten-day-old baby named Lucky Chimeno was rescued from rising waters in an extraordinary act of compassion, becoming a symbol of resilience amid disaster.

As floodwaters rapidly engulfed the Chimeno family home, Emily and Levi Chimeno found themselves in dire straits. Desperate to protect their newborn, they waved to the Cajun Navy, a group of private boat owners turned volunteers.

These brave souls mobilized to rescue families swept away by the storm. In the chaos of the flood, Baby Lucky was carried to safety on one of these boats, her family’s lifeline in the uncertain seas.

Months later, the Chimeno family returned to the very boat that rescued them for a special moment, a newborn photo shoot to honor Baby Lucky’s survival. Set against the backdrop of the ship that had carried them to safety, the photos captured not only her innocence but also the deeper meaning of the name Lucky.

“This little love, fortunately named Lucky, was rescued from home on this very boat,” said the photographer, who was honored to capture the moment. “We thought it would be fitting to take some photos of the newborn here, in the place that symbolized her survival.”

The rescue itself was nothing short of a miracle. The Chimeno family, after being rescued, spent five long hours on the boat before reaching a shelter in Louisiana.

Along the way, they encountered the incredible kindness of strangers. A volunteer in Louisiana, deeply concerned for the young family, took them into her home, providing shelter and comfort after their traumatic ordeal.

Reflecting on her journey, Emily Chimeno expressed her immense gratitude: “We have been blessed by the people of Louisiana time and time again. Lucky is our little hero because people feel more compassion when a little baby is involved.”

Lucky’s story is more than just about survival; it is a testament to the power of community and compassion in times of crisis. The Chimeno family’s experience is a poignant reminder that, in the face of disaster, it is not material possessions that matter, but kind people. Baby Lucky, rescued at just ten days old, will always be a symbol of the unwavering courage and humanity that carried her and her family through the storm.
