Avril Lavigne Reveals Why Female Artists in the 2000s Have It ‘Rougher’

Avril Lavigne released her seventh studio album, “Love Sux,” in February.

She reintroduced her characteristic pop-punk and alternative rock style to her fans, proving that after years of silence, she can still rock as hard as she did in the 2000s.

In fact, the 37-year-old musician believes that the music industry has greatly improved for women.

Avril rose to prominence with her popular songs “Sk8er Boi” and “Complicated,” but in an interview with Ultimate Guitar, she stated that being a female musician was very different back then than it is now.

“I think things were lot rougher for ladies 20 years ago, ten years ago, and even five years ago in the world, in the media, and behind the scenes,” the “I’m With You” hitmaker added.

“Because, sadly, people were getting away with behaviors that were not acceptable.”

The singer went on to say, “I saw that Britney [Spears] documentary where they show her in interviews and they talk about her physique and her boobs to her. It’s completely inappropriate, and it would never happen now.”

The Canadian-born artist then gave advise to aspiring musicians, telling them that they don’t have to be flawless or put so much pressure on themselves to be successful.

Avril Lavigne also told the site that budding musicians should learn the fundamentals of an instrument because it is worthwhile.

In her teens, she said she would “tear barre chords” for the majority of her songs.

Avril also stated that everything is a learning experience, and that budding musicians should embrace it since it will benefit them.

With her dramatic comeback last month, the “Girlfriend” hitmaker acknowledged her joy at being back in the music industry and emphasized her eagerness to connect with her fans. She even stated that live shows would be announced soon.

What Happened to Avril Lavigne?

Avril Lavigne has been out of the spotlight for several years due to Lyme disease, which has plagued her since 2014.

The condition is caused by a tick-borne bacterial infection that leads to painful problems in the joints, neurological system, and organs.

She obtained the life-changing diagnosis after consulting with many doctors and discussing pain and exhaustion issues that began when she went on tour in 2014.

During that period, she also recounted feeling confined in her own body.

Avril admitted to Billboard that she had already accepted her death and felt like she was “underwater and drowning” while she continued to “gasp for air.”
