Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has picked two Arsenal stars in his Premier League Team of the Week.
The Gunners returned to winning ways with a 1-0 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur on the road.
The club were without seven key players for the north London derby, but they came on top with a solid victory.
Gabriel Magalhaes was the man of the match after a brilliant all-round performance.
The Brazilian scored with a towering header in the 64th minute and also made eight clearances in the derby.
Shearer picked him in his Team of the Week, he said: “As he often does, came up with a big goal from a set-piece and put his body on the line defending his own goal.”
Alongside Magalhaes, there was a surprise choice from Shearer with Jorginho getting the nod in his midfield.
The 32-year-old captained the Gunners yesterday with Declan Rice suspended and Martin Odegaard being injured.
Jorginho had a difficult outing with an evident lack of control. He was also guilty of losing possession many times.
The Italian completed just 19 passes with only three out of eight duels won. He gave away the ball on nine occasions.
The experienced ace also committed a couple of fouls and made an error which contributed to a shot from Spurs.
Despite this, Shearer had a different view on the midfielder’s performance.
He said: “Making his first appearance of the season, showed all his experience by marshalling a midfield missing captain Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice superbly. The ultimate professional.”
Arsenal face Atalanta in their Champions League opener on Thursday evening.
Jorginho is likely to drop to the bench with Rice taking his place in central midfield.
