CLARKSTON, MI – Her lyrics to “I’m With You” could not have been more appropriate on this “darn cold night” at Pine Knob.

Avril Lavigne brought her “The Greatest Hits” tour to Clarkston, Michigan with Simple Plan on Saturday, September 7.

Temperatures dropped to the high 40s by show’s end. Of course, it will be near 90 in a few days. Welcome to the ups and downs of September in Michigan.

And this was an early arriving crowd. The lawn was almost full before Girlfriends took the stage at 7:00 p.m. with many people dressed in outfits with plenty of pink, purple and green colors and fishnet stockings, representative of Lavigne’s style.

Girlfriends delivered a quick half hour of lyrically fun songs like, “I Thought About You While I Was Taking a Shower,” “Shut Up and Kiss Me,” and the breakup song: “Life’s a Brittany,” along with a rickin’ cover of Katy Perry’s, “I Kissed A Girl.”

Only 15 minutes went by before Simple Plan took the stage to what was now a packed house.

They had a high energy, fun-filled 45 minute set which included covers of “All Star” and “Mr. Brightside.” They also had some people in Scooby-Doo costumes run around on stage during “What’s New Scooby-Doo.”

The band also performed fan-favorites: “I’m Just a Kid,” “Summer Paradise, “Untitled” and “Perfect,” among others. More from them coming up.

Lavigne made her entrance at 9:30 p.m. and got right into it with one of her biggest hits, “Girlfriend.”

The fast-pacing of the song was indicative of how the entire evening went.

Lavigne sounded great and looked like she was having fun on stage as she performed all of the songs fans wanted to hear like, “Complicated,” “Here’s to Never Growing Up,” “My Happy Ending,” “Nobody’s Home,” “Losing Grip,” “When You’re Gone,” “Sk8er Boi,” “Head Above Water” and “I’m With You.”

The hits were just part of the fun. It was a treat when she brought back out Simple Plan as she and the band did a duet of one of their biggest hits, “Addicted.”

Girlfriends returned to the stage next to do a cover with Lavigne of one of Blink-182′s big hits, “All the Small Things.”

Another cool moment saw Lavigne bring a half dozen fans on stage from the pit area to help her sing one of her songs. She surprised them by signing skateboards for them.

Lavigne also threw concert t-shirts into the crowd for some more souvenirs.

This concert really wasn’t complicated. Lavigne simply delivered her hits with energy and a smile. It made for a happy beginning, middle and ending to the night for concertgoers.
