4 things learned from Liverpool’s impressive August

Although there are no notable new recruits in the 2024 summer transfer window, the Arne Slot era at Liverpool has started very smoothly.

With three wins from three games and no goals conceded, Liverpool are off to an impressive start to their 2024/25 Premier League campaign. That is the “declaration of war” that Arne Slot’s team has sent to Manchester City and Arsenal in the title race this season.

Below are the four most notable points from the Anfield team’s impressive performance last August.

1. Liverpool are the championship candidates

After the first three rounds of the Premier League this season, only two clubs have won all, namely the reigning champions Manchester City and Liverpool. The Merseyside Reds have done it convincingly after defeating Ipswich Town, Brentford and Manchester United without conceding a single goal. This is the image of one of the bright candidates for the championship.

Liverpool are looking extremely dangerous.

2. Arne Slot’s strategy proves effective

The above excellent achievements are largely contributed by the excellent tactical style of Arne Slot . The former Feyenoord coach has attracted Liverpool fans since the preparation stage for this season, thanks to his ability to get the best out of his stars in attack, while also making the team more solid in defense.

The 4-2-3-1 formation is being flexibly applied by Slot in each match against different opponents, even at different times in each match to exploit the opponent’s weaknesses to the fullest. This was clearly shown when Slot pushed his wingers up high on both sides, leaving his colleague Erik ten Hag “unable to react” in the last match.

3. Luis Diaz is world class

Having seen Cody Gakpo shine at EURO 2024, many expected the Dutchman to take up a regular role on the left wing for Liverpool under Arne Slot. But surprisingly, the 45-year-old did not give that role to his compatriot, instead giving it to Diaz.

Diaz is playing so well.

Up to now, this is an extremely correct decision of the former Feyenoord “captain”. The Colombian international is making a big breakthrough in his career with his incredible ability to hold the ball, dribble and finish. After the first 3 matches in the Premier League, Diaz has 3 goals and 1 assist.

4. Mohamed Salah is back

After a poor run of form towards the end of the 2023/24 season, it looked like Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool career was over, but the Egyptian forward is proving otherwise . Playing with ease and even more dangerous under Jurgen Klopp, Salah has scored three goals and provided three assists in August alone.
