Former Gunner wanted for Jamaica setup despite England appearance

Steve McClaren wants Eddie Nketiah to play for Jamaica, but Crystal Palace believe they can get him back into the England setup.

Eddie Nketiah has always previously represented England on the international stage, playing for his country from the u18s to the first team.

But with only one appearance for the senior side so far, Nketiah is still technically eligible for a change of international allegiance.

Alan Nixon reports on his Patreon that Jamaica boss Steve McClaren is hoping to convince Nketiah to represent them instead. Nketiah is also eligible for Ghana.

Yet Crystal Palace are convinced that their new signing can boost his chances of making it back into the England squad with a run in their team this season.

Palace spent big to bring Nketiah to the club, paying £25m plus £5m in potential add-ons to sign the Arsenal striker this summer.

They clearly believe that if he gets consistent starts, he can score as often as he used to in youth football for club and country.

The striker had 35 goals and assists in 40 matches for the Arsenal u21s, and 19 in 17 games for the England u21s, but he’s never quite hit those heights in senior football so far. Maybe Crystal Palace is where he finally does it.
