Avril Lavigne: Style Icon

Avril Lavigne is a Canadian singer-songwriter. For over a decade, she has achieved great success with her own punk-style pop tunes.

Passion since childhood

Avril Ramona Lavigne, commonly known as Avril Lavigne, was born on September 27, 1984, in Belleville. When Avril was 5 years old, her family moved to Greater Napanee, Ontario, a town of about 5,000 residents. Avril’s parents were always supportive of her singing career.

Avril’s father bought her a microphone, a drum set, a keyboard and a few guitars. He then converted the basement of his house into a recording studio for his beloved daughter.

At the age of two, Avril Lavigne’s brother and mother noticed her singing ability when she sang “Jesus Loves Me” on the way home from church. When Avril was 14, her parents often took her to karaoke sessions. She played hockey and won the MVP award twice, as a “right winger” in a boys’ league.

Avril Lavigne loved to sing throughout her childhood. She first performed in church choirs, and learned to play the guitar and began writing songs as a teenager. She initially focused on country music, but eventually changed her musical style.

After high school, she moved to New York and then Los Angeles to work with Arista Records. She performed songs by Garth Brooks, the Chicks, and Shania Twain. She then began writing her own songs. Avril’s song, “Can’t Stop Thinking About You,” is about teenage love.

Changes in life

At the age of 15, Avril appeared on stage with Shania Twain. By the age of 16, Avril signed a two-album recording contract with Arista Records.

And in 2005, at the age of 17, Avril Lavigne broke into the music scene with her debut album, Let Go, in 2002. She reached No. 1 with the single Complicated, a song about a difficult relationship. Her other hits included Sk8er Boi and I’m With You.

Avril Lavigne’s music took a more mellow turn with the album Under My Skin, released in 2004, which wasn’t as big as her first album. However, Avril still had two standout songs, Don’t Tell Me and Nobody’s Home, and a big Top 10 hit of the year, My Happy Ending.

Returning to her powerful and vibrant pop style, Avril released the album The Best Damn Thing in 2007. She had a huge success with the viral hit “Girlfriend.” A Rolling Stone reviewer called the song “super catchy” and said the album contained a “heavy dose” of Avril Lavigne’s sass, anger, and vulnerability. In 2006, she married fellow musician Deryck Whibley of the Canadian band “Sum 41.”

On her follow-up album Goodbye Lullaby, Avril Lavigne looks at love in its various stages, from the joy of being together to the pain of breaking up. The album’s theme is not surprising, as between The Best Damn Thing and Goodbye Lullaby, Lavigne and Whibley divorced.

However, the split was amicable enough for the two to collaborate on the album Goodbye Lullaby, with Whibley producing several tracks on the album. Without straying too far from the powerful pop that had made her name, Avril used the catchy hit What the Hell as the album’s first single. Goodbye Lullaby was a huge success overseas, topping the charts in Japan, Australia and South Korea.

For many years, Avril Lavigne has been battling a dangerous illness. When she first got the “strange disease”, Avril Lavigne was complacent and did not go to the doctor. She thought that she was “resisting” the busy tour schedule, and that she was just suffering from a bad cold and fatigue.

However, the disease prevented her from partying on her 30th birthday, so Avril Lavigne was forced to see a doctor. The doctor gave her a preliminary diagnosis but did not ask her to do a general test, they only gave her temporary medication because they could not find the cause of the disease. A few months later, the doctors confirmed that she had Lyme disease.

Lyme disease is a zoonotic disease (transmitted from animals to humans by tick bites), and the causative agent is the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb). The disease mainly affects the skin, nervous system, heart and joints.

Avril Lavigne is also a fashion icon.

Interesting “secrets”

In addition to her musical talent, Avril Lavigne is considered a style icon. Fans have copied Avril’s multicolored hair and followed her street fashion style. However, music is not Avril Lavigne’s only interest. She has launched her own perfume called “Forbidden Rose” and created her own clothing line “Abbey Dawn”, a childhood nickname given to her by her father.

Avril Lavigne also devotes time to helping others. In 2010, she founded the Avril Lavigne Foundation, which helps young people with disabilities and serious illnesses.

Avril Lavigne once revealed that she wanted to become a police officer. When she was a child, she also wanted to become a hairdresser. Avril has a hobby of doing her own makeup without the help of others.

Avril also shared: “If I didn’t sing anymore, I would become a makeup artist because I really enjoy this job. It’s interesting that I can “transform” myself into many different faces thanks to the colors blue, red, purple, yellow… like that! Every day, I can “transform” myself into many different faces.”
