It was reportedly earlier on Wednesday that Barcelona made a move to sign Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic on a season-long loan. The former Celta youngster was seen as the replacement for Marc Bernal, who will almost certainly miss the remainder of the season after rupturing his ACL during Tuesday’s victory over Rayo Vallecano.
Bajcetic was seen as a low-cost option, but even he has proven to be too expensive for Barcelona. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the teenager is to join RB Salzburg on loan, with the move to Catalonia having been ruled out due to financial reasons.
Barcelona planned to play €4m for Bajcetic’s loan, although it’s likely that the stumbling block would have come from his wages. It’s likely that Liverpool would have demanded that the 19-year-old’s entire salary – or at least most of it – was covered, but given that there were serious struggles to register Dani Olmo, it’s probable that there’s no room left for any more signings.
