Arsenal are back in the race for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, claim reports in Italy, and would be prepared to pay €100m for the Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain target.
The Partenopei agreed with the Nigeria international when he signed a lucrative new contract in December 2023 that he would be sold this summer, but nobody has come anywhere near to the €130m release clause.
That has left them stuck waiting and unable to invest in new signings either until he is sold.
PSG came closest, then Chelsea were prepared to consider it as separate from the negotiations over Romelu Lukaku.
Arsenal can spend €100m on Osimhen
Now the Corriere dello Sport newspaper claim that Arsenal are ready to dive back in with an offer close to the new €100m plus bonuses asking price.
The 25-year-old was Capocannoniere of Serie A when Napoli won the Scudetto in 2023, finding the net 26 times in 32 games, also scoring five in six Champions League matches.
Last season, he suffered with injuries and was kept away for two months by Nigeria’s run to the Africa Cup of Nations Final, so scored only 15 in 25 Serie A appearances, plus two in six Champions League games.
While Osimhen has been very cool on the idea of joining Chelsea because they are not in the Champions League, Arsenal would tick every box for player and club.
