Arsenal Women kicked off their pre-season with a 2-1 victory over NWSL side Washington Spirit on Sunday.
It didnât take long for the deadlock to break in this friendly as Arsenalâs star talent combined minutes after the whistle.
Kim Little delivered a ball over the top which was kept alive by Frida Maanum. One Alessia Russo was in the right place at the right time and unmarked to flick home the opener.
However, the Washington Spirit pulled level just as the half-time whistle went.
The Gunners struggled to get the ball out of the box and after plenty of pinball, it remained in the NWSL sideâs possession. A back-pedaling Ouleymata Sarr then headed home 1-1.
The winner eventually arrived at the hands of Russo again as the England international scored a composed left-footed finish after being set up by Rosa Kafaji and splitting defenders.
