Arsenal have been tipped to sign a new striker for a number of months and they could step up their pursuit ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Gunners recently sent scouts to watch Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres in action, but Corriere dello Sport claim that Osimhen is also on their radar.
Paris Saint-Germain have been in negotiations for the Nigerian ace this month, but they have yet to find a suitable agreement with the Naples outfit, who are eyeing more than £84m.
It is now reported that Mikel Arteta’s side have returned to the scene. The club have made ‘new requests’ for information on the striker, who dreams of playing in the Premier League.
However, Corriere add that the Gunners are currently ‘very focused’ in the pursuit of Gyokeres.
Gyokeres would be a better signing than Osimhen
Arsenal are yet to make a formal approach for a new striker, but we believe Gyokeres would be a much better acquisition than Osimhen due to his playing style.
Gyokeres netted a stunning 43 goals alongside 15 assists in his debut season at Sporting. His statistics are vastly superior than Osimhen, who made only 21 goal contributions for Napoli last term.
The Nigerian star has also been injury prone in his career. In comparison, Gyokeres has a fantastic fitness record and has not missed a competitive club game due to an injury thus far.
Gyokeres is likewise better with his link-up play in the final third. He averaged 17.2 passes per league game last season. On the other hand, Osimhen registered only 7.6 passes per outing.
In our view, Gyokeres is a more complete striker than Osimhen who relies on his positioning in the box. Arsenal should focus on signing the former who has a £84m release clause in his contract.
