New Liverpool coach “patiently” waiting for new recruits

Manager Arne Slot is yet to make his first signing since taking over at Liverpool, but the Dutchman says he remains happy with the quality of his squad at Anfield and is looking forward to making additions at the end of the transfer window.

Arne Slot is still waiting to make his first additions to the squad after taking over from Jurgen Klopp – whose tenure ended almost nine years ago in the summer. Liverpool are in need of new recruits to resolve the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk – all of whom are out of contract in 2025. However, the new arrivals have yet to arrive despite Liverpool starting their pre-season tour of the United States, with their first friendly against Real Betis on Friday – followed by Arsenal and Man.United.

Speaking to reporters in the US, Arne Slot was calm on the transfer topic: “If there is any news about that, we will share it with you. But we have a very good team, I am really happy. It would be a surprise for all of us if we did not bring any new players into the squad, so that will probably happen at the end. At the moment, we are just waiting for the players to come back and waiting for the right ones to sign.”

French midfielder Adrien Rabiot, 29, who is a free agent at the end of his five-year contract with Juventus, is said to be an option. However, Liverpool are not the only club interested in the former Paris Saint-Germain star, with other Premier League sides also linked. Meanwhile, centre-back Marc Guehi, who has emerged after good performances for Crystal Palace and England at Euro 2024, is also on Anfield’s radar. However, the England centre-back’s £65m price tag is quite high.

Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, who starred in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, is also a target for Liverpool. But according to a recent update from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are the team most likely to win the race to sign the talent.
