Australian teenager Arisa Trew has joined the likes of Lionel Messi, Novak Djokovic and Erling Haaland to be nominated for the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards.
The 13-year-old from Queensland’s Gold Coast received a nomination on Tuesday for the 2024 Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year Award category.
The skateboarding prodigy was nominated alongside BMX star Beth Shriever and surfer Felipe Toledo.
In 2023, Trew became the first female to land the famously difficult 720 trick in competition – and to make the feat even more memorable, she did it in front of the sport’s biggest legend, Tony Hawk.
Hawk was the first person to ever land the trick, making skateboarding history when he stuck his landing in 1985, and said Trew’s effort ‘brought the house down’.
