‘Sign Me Up’: Marvel EP Would ‘Love’ to Bring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to the MCU

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had his stint with the superhero world in the DC film Black Adam. However, one Marvel executive producer has admitted that they would love to bring Johnson to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking with Inverse to promote the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel executive producer Wendy Jacobson also addressed the possibility of bringing Dwayne Johnson to the MCU. The actor made his superhero debut in the critically panned Black Adam in 2022. With James Gunn restarting the DC Universe, The Rock is unlikely to reprise his role as the Egyptian superhero. However, could he move to the MCU?

Dwayne Johnson is a highly profitable actor and Wendy Jacobson knows that very well. The two of them collaborated on several films, including 2015’s San Andreas, 2018’s Skyscraper, and 2018’s Rampage. When the topic of Dwayne Johnson came up, Jacobson said, “Oh my god, I’d love to work with Dwayne again. I think it’s all about finding the right thing.”

The Marvel EP noted that bringing Johnson to the MCU doesn’t depend on her, “Some of these things are a little above my pay grade. I just do what I’m told at Marvel. But heck yeah, sign me up.”

Black Adam was a moderate success for DCEU. The film had a budget of $200 million and made just enough to break even. At the end of its theatrical run, Black Adam grossed $390.4 million worldwide, adding $16 million in DVD and Blu-Ray sales (via The Numbers). However, it failed to convince the critics, and the superhero film holds a “rotten” score of only 39% on Rotten Tomatoes, but 88% from the audience.

Dwayne Johnson Has Other Disney Projects in the Works

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has many projects in the works, although none of them include a debut in the MCU. However, he does have some Disney projects coming up, which could come in handy should the opportunity arise for him to make the switch to the studio.

The actor will appear in the upcoming Moana 2, where he reprises his role as Maui. On top of that, aside from starring in the animated feature, Johnson will also be in Disney’s live-action Moana, where he will also play Maui. Among his projects is also Jungle Cruise 2, where he will reunite with Emily Blunt for a new adventure. On top of that, he certified his relationship with Disney with a multi-year deal recently, which could be his way into the MCU.
