Liverpool say goodbye to third goalkeeper

Liverpool’s official website confirmed on Sunday that goalkeeper Adrian will leave the club after rejecting a new contract. Czech teenager Vitezslav Jaros will become third-choice goalkeeper for the new season.

Spanish goalkeeper Adrian, who also played for West Ham during his time in England, was offered a new contract last month, but as Mail Sport reported at the time, he wanted to move to a new environment with the destination being to play in Spain.

Boyhood club Real Betis are keen on signing Adrian as a free agent.

Adrian, 37, is a key member of the dressing room and is well-liked by his team-mates, playing a key role in pre-match warm-ups and assisting with the training of Alisson and promising goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

He made a total of 26 appearances in five seasons at Anfield.

Adrian leaves Liverpool after 5 years

New coach Arne Slot will now put his faith in first-choice goalkeeper Alisson, who is on vacation after Brazil were eliminated from Copa America 2024, and Kelleher.

The Irishman has attracted plenty of interest but no club has made a serious bid for him so far. Nottingham, one of the clubs interested, had a £15m bid rejected for Kelleher in January. Liverpool want at least £25m for Kelleher after an excellent season in which he regularly replaced Alisson.

Liverpool will now place their faith in Jaros, who will join the first team next season. Czech-born Jaros moved to Liverpool from Slavia Prague in 2017 at the age of 15. He is considered a homegrown product in the squad.

Jaros, 22, is part of the Czech Republic’s Euro 2024 squad . The young goalkeeper won a league and cup double with Austrian club Sturm Graz on loan last season, and has also had spells at St Patrick’s Athletic, Notts County and Stockport County.
