Watch Tom Holland Show Off His Boxing Skills in a ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ Training Video
Every character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has their own unique, almost trademark physicality; for Spider-Man, a lot of that involves flipping, spinning and swinging. But it turns out that Tom Holland, who plays the friendly neighbourhood superhero, has also “got some hands”—at least, according to his boxing coach.
In a short clip of a boxing workout with trainer Louis Chandler from July this year, presumably shot during filming for upcoming MCU sequel Spider-Man: No Way Home, which resurfaced on Twitter this week when it was shared by the ESPN Ringside account, Holland demonstrates his speed and agility in the ring.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that the internet has eaten up Holland’s fitness routine; he was one of the original celebrities behind the handstand challenge that swept Instagram and TikTok last year, encouraging people to show off their core strength becoming the first major viral trend of quarantine in the process.
While Holland is a trained dancer, his training has definitely gotten a lot more intense since he first secured the role of Peter Parker back in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. In a recent interview he joked that EMS training is his absolute least favourite part of the entire process of becoming Spider-Man: “You wear this black suit and they put these pads on you and you basically do a yoga class while they electrocute you,” he said. “It’s awful.”
Then, in between Marvel movies, he transformed his body again in order to play a war veteran and drug addict in the film Cherry. Earlier this year, he unveiled the results of his preparation for No Way Home in a shirtless photo with trainer Duffy Gaver—and also announced his intentions to take a break from acting once his commitments to Marvel have come to an end. Given the relentless training cycle, we can’t say we blame him.
