Although it is not clear when the duo met, Gomez and Cabello have spoken about their friendship, mental health, and body positivity over the years. The Latina singers have shared the negative consequences of being in the public light and the pressures to have a perfect appearance. Both of them have spoken against body-shaming at different times.

Camila Cabello has also spoken highly of her friendship with the Love On singer. She also spoke about her friendship with Selena Gomez to People in May 2022 and she revealed that she can be her authentic self with Gomez. She added that she doesn’t have to “pretend” to be anyone else with her. In the same month, it was revealed that for Wondermind’s May Cover, Gomez and Cabello sat down to talk about mental health and Cabello’s experience with anxiety.

Selena Gomez and Camila Cabello are friends who also speak against body shaming and promote body positivity. After her battle with lupus disease, Gomez revealed that weight fluctuations can be a potential effect of the disease and medications.

She has on multiple occasions spoken about unrealistic beauty standards and has also based Rare Beauty, her beauty line, on accepting imperfections. Gomez took to her Instagram to share photos of herself from 2013 and 2024 and wrote that she “realized” she was not going to look the same again. She added,

“I’m not perfect but I am proud to be who I am … sometimes I forget it’s OK to be me.”

Gomez has also co-founded Wondermind, a company dedicated to providing expert backed-up mental health resources.

In an exclusive interview with People, Cabello talked about a now-deleted post on Instagram in 2022. She wrote about how paparazzi posted her pictures online and how the comments on the pictures affected her “self-esteem”. Cabello emphasized that fans can look up to “pictures of celebrities and want to change their diet or aspire to that.” However, for her, it has been important to point to her fans,

‘Hey, this isn’t necessarily something to aspire to.”

Camila Cabello spoke about her friendship with Selena Gomez to People and noted that they have their “own little group” and that all of their conversations are “real.” She was all praise for her friend and reported,

“She is somebody that’s always been so supportive, a really great friend, and a person with great values. She’s super empathetic, loyal, and honest.”

Cabello also talked about the pressure of looking “perfect” in the industry and how Selena Gomez’s friendship is like a guide to her. She reported,

“Women like her being so vulnerable and honest with their feelings is such a guiding light for me, and I think it’s going to alleviate a lot of people coming after her, after me, in the industry, that feel like they have to be perfect.”

Camilla also spoke to Access Hollywood at the Variety 2022 Power of Women about Gomez and reported that,

“A woman in my life who I feel like really sets an example for being honest, for being real, for being vulnerable, for being kind.”

In the May cover for Wondermind, Cabello opened up to Selena Gomez and revealed that the best mental health advice she has received is to not “pretend” or “fake”. She added that she also has been to therapy for her mental health and added,

“Saying the truth and being vulnerable and talking about it is basically what my therapist says to me in every session.”

Selena Gomez and Camila Cabello are not only friends but also mental health and body positivity advocates. Cabelo has also been appreciative of her friendship with Gomez and also looks up to her as a guiding light.
