Margot Robbie reveals new ‘Monopoly’ movie in the works.

After dominating the box office with the movie Barbie, Margot Robbie has announced plans for a new adaptation of the game ‘Monopoly’ through her production company LuckyChap. Lionsgate is set to distribute the film.

In a statement, LuckyChap expressed the thrill of working with the property, saying, “Like all of the best IP, this game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring this game to life alongside the wonderful teams involved at Lionsgate.”

Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson also expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap. They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care”.

LuckyChap was founded in 2014 by Robbie and her husband, Tom Ackerley. In addition to working on films such as Barbie, the company was also responsible for producing the film Saltburn with Emerald Fennell.

This news also comes right after LuckyChap announced another entry into children’s entertainment. Along with announcing the popular board game, Robbie’s company has also acquired the rights to use the Sims brand for her next movie. This follows a growing surge in movies based on video game properties, from Tom Holland’s Uncharted to the animated Super Mario Bros Movie.

Of course, Robbie’s ventures into these brand-specific movies have already garnered a massive response. Outside of the success at the box office, Robbie became one of the highest-grossing actors last year for her work in the cinema, earning $50million for her Barbie efforts alone. The hype was also combined with the release of the Christopher Nolan epic Oppenheimer, which was released on the same day and led to many theatre-goers watching both films consecutively.

In addition to working on the trip into the different properties on the board, Robbie is also set to begin production on an updated prequel to the Oceans franchise and produce the latest installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. As of yet, there has been no word on when production on the ‘Monopoly’ project will begin.
