She said, clearly touched: ‘Thank you for coming and being so loving, and strong and unified.

‘But she told me to stop as Olivia wouldn’t have wanted me to, then said that Olivia would have wanted to hear the hits at the concert.’

Pharrell had first performed his song Get Lucky, before he expressed his admiration for the people of Manchester and their sense of hope, following the suicide bombing at Ariana Grande’s gig in the city two weeks ago.

He told the 60,000 strong crowd: ‘I’m bowing for you all, because despite all the things that have been going on in this place, I don’t feel or smell or see any fear in this building.

He then invited Miley to join him for the song, with the pair excitedly dancing and singing together to the delight of crowds.

Becoming emotional, she said to the crowd: ‘The most important responsibility we have on this planet is to take care of each other.’

Going on to discuss her own charity The Happy Hippie, she continued: ‘We started raising awareness by putting together something like this, a bunch of artists of all different types, except it was held in my own back yard.

‘But today, I feel like I’m at home in Manchester, so I thank you for that.’

Continuing in tribute of her friend Ariana, whose Manchester Arena gig was targeted by the suicide bomber, she added: ‘I started the Happy Hippie because I wanted to encourage people to fight for what is right, and that is how me and Ariana became close, as she was the first artist to say yes.

Little Mix had also appeared onstage to perform an emotional rendition of Wings, with Jade saying beforehand: ‘We are so, so happy to be a part of this incredible day, thank you.

Flying solo: Niall Horan also took to the stage to perform his solo hits, without his One Direction boys by his side

Coldplay followed after the Baby hitmaker, performing their own version of Oasis’ Don’t Look Back In Anger – amid rumours they were to hit the stage themselves.

A tweet posted by Taboo, a member of The Black Eyed Peas, listed Oasis as one of the confirmed acts for Sunday’s concert, sending fans wild.

If brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher were to reform onstage, it will mark their first gig together since 2009, and the end of a long running and bitter feud.

However Coldplay, fronted by Chris Martin, simply teased at a reunion by performing their famous song with Ariana, before performing their moving hit Fix You – letting off brightly coloured confetti into the crowds as it reached its climax.

The 44-year-old looked his typically grungy self in an orange raincoat as he opened his set with the band’s famous hit Rock n Roll Star – although his sibling and bandmate, who he has not spoken to since 2009, failed to join him.

Sticking to what he does best, the rock star took to the mic with his hands behind his back as he belted out a number of the band’s hits, as well as his new solo single Wall of Glass.

Openly moved by the tragic events in his home city, he then dedicated his rendition of Live Forever to the ‘beautiful people’ who were killed and injured in the terror attack at Ariana’s gig.

However, fans were left disappointed by Noel’s absence – taking to Twitter to vent their frustration.

Following the band’s set, Gary introduced the 43-year-old to the stage as their ‘close friend’ – before Robbie emerged and joined the trio for a group bow, to the delight of the crowds.

Embarking on his own performance, Robbie then crooned out a stirring rendition of his song ‘Strong’, which saw him change the lyrics in tribute to Manchester, following the tragic suicide bombing at Ariana Grande’s gig on May 22.

The brave 23-year-old confirmed on Instagram that she would headline the One Love fundraiser for the victims of the attack – a mere two weeks after the tragic suicide bombing that occurred at her Manchester Arena gig, on Monday May 22.

Alongside her set, fellow chart-toppers Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Usher, Pharrell Williams, Take That and Niall Horan also confirmed they would take to the stage, in tribute to those affected by the atrocity, by sharing the gig’s promotional poster to their social media pages.

All proceeds will go straight to the ‘We Love Manchester Emergency Fund’, which has been set up by the Manchester City Council in partnership with the British Red Cross to help grieving families and victims of the attack.

Ariana assigned those that were in attendance at her concert on Monday free tickets to the event, while the gig itself was televised for the public on the BBC, and streamed on BBC Radio 1.

However, the concert was made particularly poignant as it came 24 hours after another fatal terror attack in London.

On Saturday night, three individuals wearing fake suicide vests ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge in a white van, before embarking on a stabbing spree in a number of packed bars and pubs on Borough High Street.

A video taken at the Market Porter pub depicted revellers hiding underneath the tables in fear upon instruction of the police, as the attackers came within feet of the pub.

All three suspects were shot dead by police – just eight minutes after the first emergency call was received. It emerged on Sunday that a member of the public was shot after being caught in the police crossfire.

The police have since arrested 12 people, including four women, into custody in a dramatic raid at block of flats where one of the London Bridge terrorists reportedly lived.

Security has been heightened ahead of Ariana’s gig following both traumatic events, and Ticketmaster has sent out an email warning concertgoers to not bring bags ‘for speed of entry’.

Taking part: Global superstars Pharrell Williams (L) and Usher (R) added to line-up for the One Love show – held a mere two weeks after the tragic bombing, which left 22 dead

Ariana announced she would be hosting the star-studded concert following the tragic bombing at her Manchester gig earlier this month, which killed 22 people, including children, and left 119 injured.

Suicide bomber Salman Abedi, 22, had targeted gig-goers by setting off a ‘nail bomb’ in the lobby of the Manchester Arena, immediately after Ariana’s set finished.

Chilling video footage saw panicked guests screaming and fleeing for the doors, after hearing the sound of the explosion ripping through the venue’s exit.

The atrocity marked Britain’s deadliest attack since the 7/7 bombings on the London Underground, which killed 52 back in 2005.

After postponing the rest of her tour and flying home to Florida in the wake of the attack, Ariana penned her devastation in an emotional tribute to those lost and involved on her Instagram.

She began: ‘My heart, prayers and deepest condolences are with the victims of the Manchester attack and their loved ones.

‘There is nothing I or anyone can do to take away the pain you are feeling or to make this better.

‘However, I extend my hand and heart and everything I possibly can give to you and yours, should you want or need my help in any way.

‘The only thing we can do now is choose how we let this affect us and how we live our lives from here on out.’

‘We won’t let hate win’: After postponing her tour and flying home to Florida in the wake of the attack, Ariana penned an emotional tribute to those involved on her Instagram (above)

‘We shouldn’t recoil’: Breaching the idea of a concert, she wrote to fans: ‘Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder’

Expressing her admiration of her fans, she continued: ‘The compassion, kindness, love, strength and oneness that you’ve shown one another this past week is the exact opposite of the heinous intentions it must take to pull off something as evil as what happened Monday.

‘You are the opposite. I am sorry for the pain and fear that you must be feeling and for the trauma that you, too, must be experiencing.

‘We will never be able to understand why events like this take place because it is not in our nature, which is why we shouldn’t recoil.

‘We will not quit or operate in fear. We won’t let this divide us. We won’t let hate win.’

Then breaching the idea of a benefit concert, she added: ‘Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder and to live more kindly and generously than we did before.’

Stay strong: She finished: ‘We will not quit or operate in fear. We won’t let this divide us. We won’t let hate win’

‘I’ll be returning to the incredibly brave city of Manchester to spend time with my fans and to have a benefit concert in honor of and to raise money for the victims and their families.

‘I want to thank my fellow musicians and friends for reaching out to be a part of our expression of love for Manchester. I will have details to share with you as soon as everything is confirmed.’

A string of stars publicly shared their support for Ariana in the days that followed – with Katy, Miley and Harry Styles giving their condolences on Twitter, while Emeli Sande and Lorde broke down onstage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Hull.

Actor Tom Hardy even set up his own JustGiving page to urge fans to help those affected by the ‘cruel, cowardly and barbaric’ attack – with the fund raising a whopping £35,000 in one week.

After the performance, a whole host of stars flooded Twitter with praise for the sensational concert.

Katy Perry wrote: ‘You are so beautiful and brave #OneLoveManchester’.

Miley Cyrus added: ‘Dancing w my BB girl @ArianaGrande #OneLoveManchester’. (sic)
