In what’s truly a dream collab for those of us with feelings, Olivia Rodrigo and Avril Lavigne shared in a musical duet. Yes, that’s right, the two performers responsible for a good chunk of the tracks on your breakup playlist sang together.
The magical pop punk moment occurred on Friday (April 29) night during the Toronto stop of Olivia’s SOUR tour. As captured by multiple social media accounts, including @DailyRodrigo, Avril served as a surprise guest for the show and appeared alongside Olivia for a performance of “Complicated.” Unfortunately, “Sk8er Boi” was not on the setlist.
Naturally, the moment led to plenty of social media celebrations. “Olivia wasn’t even born when avril released complicated and that is how you know you’ve made a TIMELESS HIT,” one user remarked. While this person was rightfully “jealous of the crowd.”
Following the performance. Avril took to Instagram, sharing a photo of the two mid-song, with the caption, “Jumped up to sing “Complicated” on stage with @oliviarodrigo in Toronto tonight. It was very sweet to perform with you tonight on your SOUR tour!! Have an incredible tour gurl. Keep killing it. Sending you so much love.”
This isn’t the first time Olivia has shown her appreciation for Avril. She opened her tour with a cover of “Complicated” and once remarked that she was a “massive fan.” Avril was also the one to award Olivia the trophy for Songwriter of the Year at the Variety Hitmakers Brunch in December 2021, People noted.
There’s no word on what additional surprises may await future attendees of Olivia’s tour, but the pop star is definitely having the time of her life. Her downtime has included a visit to the American Girl store, creating a Twilight-inspired TikTok with Conan Gray, and she even turned a few shows into unofficial proms.
