The video pans to flashbacks of Peaches and her ex as they embrace in an arcade after she wins a stuffed bear toy, make snow angels and lie in bed together. At one point during the music video the pair recreates the final scene of the 1984 film Sixteen Candles.

Eventually Peaches’ memories start being replaced as she remembers receiving a necklace from her ex, but the vision quickly switches to her holding collar in a box with her ex becoming a white dog. Ultimately, both Peaches and her ex end up going through with the procedure by the end of the video.

In real life, Grande officially split from husband Dalton Gomez in October. She is currently dating Ethan Slater.

On Thursday, Grande sat down with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 and the pair dissected her new album, the inspirations behind it and discussed how her time filming Wicked was “healing” for her relationship with music.

During the conversation, the pair discussed the overarching story that the record tells, which “starts with a question and it ends with an answer,” as Lowe phrased it. Evan Peters and Ariana Grande in the music video for “We Can’t Be Friends.”

“The question is, ‘How do I know if I’m in the right relationship, if I found the right person?’ ” Lowe said, before pointing out that the final track, “Ordinary Things” — which Grande has previously teased features her grandmother, Nonna — provided the answer to that pressing question.

Grande said she “didn’t realize” how neatly the track tied up her initial questioning until she found a “voice note” of her Nonna talking to a friend.

“I knew ‘Ordinary Things’ was the end of the album. I was like, ‘This is the last song, but I wonder how I can put that button on it and have it land emotionally the way that I feel it can, and how can I answer the question?’”
