Selena Gomez would prefer to pursue acting rather than music, but ‘I have one more album in me’

Selena Gomez is gearing up to release her new album, the follow-up to 2020’s “Rare,” this year and she’s been dropping subtle hints about what fans can expect to hear. However, it seems that the actress and singer is more focused on her time on screen than in the studio.

In an unreleased episode of the “Smartless” podcast with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, Gómez talked about finding a niche in the entertainment industry “to just settle” since she has stopped acting, singing and is now the CEO of her own cosmetics line, Rare Beauty. She told the hosts that “I feel like I have one more album in me,” but that in a perfect world, “I would probably choose to act.”

He had to choose a lane, but Gómez responded: “You’re right, but I’m going to want to relax because I’m tired.”

The full episode of the “Smartless” podcast will be available on January 8 but is now available to listeners subscribed to Wonder+.

Elsewhere in the episode, Gómez recalled times when her heavy workload landed her in a mental institution, a topic she discussed transparently in her documentary “My Mind & Me,” and was the cause of her canceling a tour. “It just affected me because I love working and it distracts me from the bad things,” she said.

Gómez recently shared the upbeat pop song “Single Soon,” which is presumably the first single from her incoming album, and also told Vogue México that she hadn’t written “sad songs” for her new album. Gomez and Afrobeats star Rema also enjoyed a Top 10 song of 2023 together with “Calm Down,” which was certified triple platinum by the RIAA.
