Cardi B becomes first female rapper with two No. 1 hits as ‘I Like It’ peaks on the Billboard charts

Cardi B’s fans certainly like it — her music, that is.

The Bronx-born rapper’s infectious track “I Like It” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Monday, making Cardi the first female rapper ever to notch two chart-topping singles.

The song, which features Bad Bunny and J Balvin and samples the 1967 Pete Rodriguez hit “I Like It Like That,” is the fourth single off Cardi’s debut album “Invasion of Privacy.”

It follows her breakthrough single “Bodak Yellow,” which ruled the charts for three weeks last fall.

Cardi celebrated her feat in a video shared to YouTube in which the rapper thanked her fans and expressed her excitement.

“It’s so crazy because I always loved this record but I ain’t gonna front, I slept on it,” she said. “I slept on this record because two verses on this song, J Balvin and Bad Bunny’s parts, are in Spanish and I figured not all my fans know Spanish… But y’all made it happen.”

The success of “I Like It” makes Cardi, 25, the first artist to chart two No. 1 songs off of his or her debut album since Macklemore & Ryan Lewis did it in 2013 with “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us,” both off “The Heist,” according to Billboard. The last female solo artist to do so was Lady Gaga in 2009.

When “Bodak Yellow” peaked in September, it marked the first time in 20 years a female rapper with solo billing accomplished the feat.

The only one to ever do it before Cardi was Lauryn Hill, who in 1998 reigned over the charts with “Doo Wop (That Thing).”

Three other female rappers have scored No. 1 hits, though not without some help: Lil’ Kim, whose 2001 hit “Lady Marmalade” featured Pink, Christina Aguilera and Mya; Shawnna, who was featured on Ludacris’ 2003 song “Stand Up,” and Iggy Azalea, whose “Fancy” got an assist from Charli XCX in 2014.

Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, recently announced that she and Offset, who are expecting a baby together this month, secretly married in September.
