“He’s got a great build”: Dwayne Johnson Believed This WWE Superstar Would Be the Next Rock or John Cena, and It Wasn’t Cody Rhodes

Renowned for his appealing persona both inside and outside of the ring, Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock, recently assumed a formidable position in the WWE and was also elected to the TKO Board in January. However, his ability to identify rising talent is what is currently making headlines again, as evidenced by a 2019 video that went viral on social media.

And no, he did not describe Cody Rhodes as the next John Cena or Rock of the wrestling world.

The actor mentioned Drew McIntyre as someone who he thinks has the potential to be the company’s face in an interview with TMZ Sports four years ago. The Rock praised McIntyre’s impressive physique, emphasizing the importance of his honing wrestling skills and connecting with the audience, which are key components in transforming a wrestler into a star.

The Rock’s Bold Prediction: Drew McIntyre Is WWE’s Rising Star
Following much conjecture regarding his future with WWE, Drew McIntyre has officially signed a new contract with the organization. And it was Dwayne Johnson, who made the announcement via his official Instagram account, which came as a bit of a surprise.

It appears Johnson, who recently became a member of the board of directors at TKO, the parent company of WWE, is happy to have signed McIntyre a new contract. This unexpected revelation stunned the wrestling community, as both fans and analysts were speculating about McIntyre’s future with the company.

Now, though, it appears that McIntyre is here to stay in WWE for the foreseeable future after receiving the go-ahead from The Rock.

The news is made even more intriguing by the fact that The Rock himself foresaw McIntyre’s rise to prominence in the WWE back in 2019. The former was questioned about his thoughts on the WWE’s next “Rock” during that TMZ Sports interview. He claimed that after discussing the matter with his cousin Roman Reigns, he decided on Drew McIntyre.

“Personally I like Drew McIntyre, I think he’s got a great look, great built … and especially as he continue to hold in on his craft and connect with the audience which is always the most important.”
Rock remarks, “I think he’s got a great look, great build”, adding that he only gets better each time he enters the ring.

Given that McIntyre is currently regarded as a top WWE attraction, The Final Boss’ prediction did indeed come to pass. There appear to be ambitious plans for McIntyre, given his new deal with the company.

Details: Drew McIntyre Extends Contract With WWE

Drew McIntyre has re-signed with WWE. The announcement was made on April 27 via Instagram by The Rock. McIntyre’s contract was initially supposed to expire before WrestleMania, but Fightful Select claims that time was added to it to allow him to go further.

According to the outlet, McIntyre was approached by WWE in March to extend his contract, and the two parties have now finalized the arrangement. Meanwhile, PWInsider reveals that he will not be returning to television right away. He sustained a severe hyperextended elbow that is still healing.

The video that The Rock posted was reportedly pre-shot so that WWE would have content ready when the deal closed. We learned from Wrestlezone.

Anyway, can you imagine the excitement ricocheting through the fanbase? What’s more, harking back to a 2019 interview, it was The Rock himself who envisioned McIntyre’s ascent, earmarking him as the heir apparent to icons like himself or John Cena, and notably, not Cody Rhodes.
