Fans appear to boo Cristiano Ronaldo at ringside watching Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou

Fans appeared to boo Cristiano Ronaldo as he watched Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou on Saturday night – though everything might not be as it seems.

Fury claimed a controversial win over Ngannou after being awarded a split decision victory by the judges in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

But watching the fight were several celebrities including Kanye West, Eminem, and Ronaldo, who plays for Saudi side Al Nassr.

However, as TV cameras found the former Manchester United looking for his seat, a smattering of boos could be heard ringing around inside the 26,000-seat Kingdom Arena.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was attending the fight with his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez.

And he looked stony-faced as boos could be heard when he was broadcast on the big screen.

It even led to louder jeers, prompting host Laura Woods to say: “He didn’t look happy. The director is going to get fired.”

Ronaldo might not have expected to have been greeted with such a response considering his team Al Nassr play in the same city as Riyadh.

However, Al Hilal are one of their biggest rivals and also are from Riyadh, though there is another possible explanation.

The 38-year-old is renowned for his famous ‘siu’ celebration when he scores, which sounds a bit like a boo and might have been what was actually being said.

Ronaldo was attending the fixture just hours after his Al Nassr side claimed a 3-1 win over Al Feiha in Al Majmaah, a town north of Riyadh.

The Portugal international starred up front but could not get on the scoresheet and was eventually subbed off.

While at the boxing, the veteran forward was treated to a night of controversy.

Ngannou might have arrived as a huge underdog but was a formidable foe for Fury.

So much so, that he left the WBC champion decked in the third round after a telling left-hand blow.

Fury, who could not score such a knockdown, scraped victory after two judges scored 95-94, 96-93 to Fury and another 95-94 to Ngannou.

And fans were shocked that the Wythenshawe-born star landed the win despite his unimpressive showing.

It has thrown fresh doubt over Fury’s upcoming bout against Oleksandr Usyk, which was initially scheduled to happen in December.
