The upcoming EURO 2024 is a better opportunity for new coach Arne Slot’s Liverpool to “check out” their targets for this summer’s transfer window.
Justin Bijlow (Netherlands)
One of Slot’s former students at Feyenoord contacted by Liverpool is goalkeeper Justin Bijlow. This comes after it was revealed that Alisson Becker was approached by Saudi Arabian football teams in March.
Bijlow was sought after by Liverpool.
Although Liverpool has no intention of selling the Brazilian player, they still want to be proactive in every situation. Bijlow is under consideration, while the 26-year-old goalkeeper admitted that he is ready to leave his boyhood club this summer.
On the national team, Bijlow is unlikely to be the main starter as he has to compete with Brentford’s Mark Flekken.
Lutsharel Geertruida (Netherlands)
Geertruida is Bijlow’s teammate and compatriot. This versatile defender is one of Slot’s favorite Feyenoord players. Geertruida will play a big role for coach Ronald Koeman’s team in Germany.
Although often deployed as a right-back, Geertruida can still play well in the center of defense. Solid in defense and possessing leadership qualities, the Dutch player is considered a worthy replacement for Van Dijk.
Ollie Watkins (UK)
It is reported that coach Slot admires Ollie Watkins and has identified the England international as a replacement for Darwin Nunez .
Watkins shines in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old Aston Villa player was the assist king of the last Premier League season and also impressed by scoring 19 goals. He of course cannot compete with Harry Kane at EURO 2024, but will be a useful backup plan.
Teun Koopmeiners (Netherlands)
The third and final Dutch player on this list is Teun Koopmeiners . Coached by Slot at AZ, Liverpool’s interest in the attack-minded midfielder actually predates his appointment at Anfield.
Liverpool has long been a fan of Atalanta’s players and clearly understood Koopmeiners’ talent when they lost to the defending Europa League champions last season. To get the 26-year-old midfielder who scored 15 goals in the 2023/24 season, The Kop must compete fiercely with Juventus.
Johan Bakayoko (Belgium)
Another player that The Kop has been interested in for a long time. Johan Bakayoko has had a fantastic breakthrough season with PSV. A creative machine for the Dutch champions, the Belgian provided an assist when his side faced Slot’s Feyenoord.
With Mohamed Salah no longer young, Bakayoko could be the ideal long-term successor. With Belgium not possessing excellent right wingers, this 21-year-old star will have steady minutes in Germany.
