WELL, NEW THIS MORNING THE HOUSE HAS CENSORED AL GREEN, THE DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMAN WHO DISRUPTED PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP’S ADDRESS TO CONGRESS EARLIER THIS WEEK WHEN EXPLAINING HIS ACTIONS TO THE HOUSE. THE TEXAS CONGRESSMAN SAID HE’D DO IT AGAIN. GREEN SHOUTED AT THE PRESIDENT AFTER HE SAID VOTERS HAD GIVEN HIM A MANDATE NOT SEEN FOR DECADES. Two days after Texas Rep. Al Green disrupted President Donald Trump’s speech during a joint Congressional session, members of the House — including Democratic lawmakers from California — voted to censure Green.Green’s outbursts toward Trump came as he declared the Nov. 5 election delivered a governing mandate not seen for decades.”You have no mandate,” Green said while shaking his cane and refusing Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson’s order to sit down.Johnson eventually ordered the sergeant-at-arms to escort Green out of the chamber as Republican lawmakers stood up and chanted “USA! USA!” before cheering in response to Green’s departure.On Thursday, lawmakers voted mostly along party lines 224-198 in favor of a censure resolution. Ten Democrats joined with Republicans, including two from California.They were Rep. Ami Bera, who represents the Sacramento area and Rep. Jim Costa, who represents the parts of the southern San Joaquin Valley that include Visalia, Farmersville and Fresno.Other California lawmakers included Reps. Doug LaMalfa, Tom McClintock, Ken Calvert, Vince Fong, Darrell Issa, Kevin Kiley, Young Kim, Jay Obernolte and David Valadao. They are all Republicans.After the censure resolution, Green said he would do it again.Disruptions during joint sessions have become far more frequent in recent years. In 2022, Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert chanted “build the wall” as President Joe Biden talked about the border and immigration reform. Boebert this year also shouted “13 of them” in reference to the Kabul airport bombing that killed U.S. soldiers including a Roseville sergeant.Greene heckled Biden again in 2023 and 2024. During Trump’s first term as president, Democrats also disrupted Trump during his speeches.
