£150k per week star has rejected several offers to leave United, he faced Liverpool yesterday – Agent

Manchester United suffered a disappointing 3-0 Premier League loss to Liverpool on Sunday.

Casemiro had a poor outing in the opening half and he gifted possession in the lead-up to both goals scored by Luis Diaz.

Kobbie Mainoo made a similar error following the break and Mohamed Salah capitalised to make it 3-0 for Arne Slot’s side.

Christian Eriksen was only a 86th-minute substitute in the derby, but he appears content to stay at Old Trafford this year.

In an interview with Voetbal International, agent Martin Schoots dismissed the midfielder’s chances of leaving this summer.

He added that Eriksen and his family want to stay in Western Europe. The Dane rejected plenty of offers from elsewhere.

Ajax were interested in the midfielder at the start of the year, but Schoots clarified that they did not follow up their interest.

He said: “There has already been interest from various sides in Christian, but he will stay at United. There were options in the Arab world, Turkey and MLS, but they were rejected in advance because Chris and his family wanted to stay in Western Europe.

“There has been informal contact with Anderlecht. Never more than that. Ajax enquired in January, but that was too early, and the question was not asked this summer. So that wasn’t an item. There was another Dutch club that contacted us, but that was not an option.

“It’s difficult when you play for basically one of the three biggest clubs in the world to go to a much smaller competition, especially without Champions League football. We can end those speculations. At least until the end of the calendar year, when they will flare up again.”

Eriksen could leave United in January

The 32-year-old joined the Red Devils on a free transfer in the summer of 2022. He had a terrific first half to the 2022/23 season with nine assists before suffering a nasty ankle injury.

The Dane has since failed to replicate his performances. His playing time has drastically reduced from the starting XI and he is currently a fringe player in the first-team squad.

Mason Mount’s hamstring injury could increase his playing time, but he is unlikely to break into the starting XI ahead of Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes or Manuel Ugarte.

Eriksen is best suited to playing from the advanced midfield role. We don’t see him operating in the position unless Fernandes is asked to start as the false number nine.

In our view, there is a possibility that Eriksen could depart in January, but that would depend on his playing time under manager Erik ten Hag in the forthcoming months.

If he continues to struggle for regular minutes, a mutual release could be agreed before his contract expires in June 2025.

It seems unlikely that United will secure a transfer fee for Eriksen, considering his huge wages of £150,000 per week. The club could save some of it by agreeing to a Bosman exit.
